Spam Storm this morning. :-(
Just thought I’d share the fact with everyone out there that my inbox was flooding with 1400 emails this morning; I normally get a bit of spam, but I usually get so few that I can just quickly delete them all first thing in the morning.
Today, I have, as I said, 1400. Most of them are “undeliverable” notices, and thats why I’m posting this morning; When you get a storm of these types of emails, what is typically happening is a machine is blasting out spam to a huge range of random addresses, and is using your email address as the return address on those spam emails.
The reason that happens is that trojans and spyware infect a computer, and go through that persons email address book, using one or more addresses of people that person knows as the return address.
Sadly, there is nothing I can do about this problem; I don’t have any way to figure out which of the couple of thousand people who have my email address are infected. If this happens to you, you just have to wait it out until the infected user figures it out and cleans their PC.
